چکیده

Otoacoustic Emissions (OAEs) are sounds which emerge from ear canal when (paradoxically) tympanic membrane receives vibrations from cochlea transmitted by middle ear. The present study was taken up as the literature review shows that the effect of different click durations on the presence of Transient Evoked Otoacoustic Emission (TEOAE) has not been studied. The present study involved 15 subjects (30 ears) with normal hearing sensitivity and having no history of any otologic or neurological problems. The results revealed that there was a reduction in Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) of the TEOAE in all the frequencies from 1 kHz to 5 kHz when the duration was increased to more than 300 μs. Hence from the present study we can conclude that duration of 300 μs or below gives a maximum SNR in TEOAE.

Evaluation of Distortion and Transient Evoked Otoacoustic Emission in Tinnitus Patients with Normal Hearing

Introduction: Tinnitus is a perception of sound without external source. The exact etiology of tinnitus is not fully understood, although some researchers believe that the condition usually starts in the cochlea. The aim of this study was to determine the potential contribution of outer hair cell dysfunction to chronic tinnitus, by application of Distortion-Product Evoked Otoacoustic Emission (...

Enhancement of the transient-evoked otoacoustic emission produced by the addition of a pure tone in the guinea pig.

This study examined the transient-evoked otoacoustic emission obtained in response to a click stimulus presented in combination with a pure tone in the guinea pig. Low-pass filtered click waveforms were digitally generated using a sin(t)/t function windowed over 3 ms with an elevated cosine envelope. Transient-evoked otoacoustic emissions were obtained using the nonlinear derived response techn...

The relationship between ultra-high frequency thresholds and transient evoked otoacoustic emissions in adults with tinnitus

Background: The possible role of cochlear function in tinnitus generation is still a matter of debate. To assess the role of outer hair cell dysfunction in tinnitus and its possible relationship with ultra-high frequency (UHF) hearing sensitivity, transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAE) and UHF hearing thresholds were investigated in normal hearing individuals with and withou...

Delay dependence for the origin of the nonlinear derived transient evoked otoacoustic emission.

In the guinea pig it has been shown that the nonlinear derived transient evoked otoacoustic emission (TEOAEnl) is comprised of significant amounts of intermodulation distortion energy. It is expected that intermodulation distortion arising from a nonlinear distortion mechanism will contribute to the overall TEOAE in a stimulus-level-dependent manner, being greatest when basilar-membrane vibrati...

The effects of high-frequency hearing loss on low-frequency components of the click-evoked otoacoustic emission.

Click-evoked otoacoustic emission (CEOAE) input/output (I/O) functions were measured in ears with normal hearing and in ears with sensorineural hearing loss above 2000 Hz. The low- to midfrequency CEOAEs obtained from the ears with high-frequency hearing loss were significantly reduced in level compared to the CEOAEs obtained from the ears with normal hearing even though there were no significa...
